JIGCAR SHIPS #03 - The Driver App

This is the third post in Jigcar Ships - a running series covering new features as they go live.

Every car transport operator runs the same two risks: a plan that drifts once it's driven, and a delivery that can't be proven once it's done. The Jigcar Driver App, our vehicle logistics driver app with built-in proof of delivery - closes both.

Jigcar can plan the cheapest way to move the day - the sequence that takes out the empty legs, the routes that keep utilisation high. But the saving is only on paper until the day is actually driven that way. The moment a driver reorders a run, misses a collection window, or logs a job on a scrap of paper to "sort out later", the plan and the reality start to drift - and the margin drifts with them.

The gap after delivery is just as expensive. A car is dropped, and then the paperwork begins: the photos that never made it off someone's phone, the condition query three weeks later with nothing to answer it, the invoice that waits on a proof that has to be chased down. The move is done. It just isn't paid.

So we built the Driver App to close both gaps - from planned to driven, and from delivered to paid.

A schedule, not just a job list

The cheapest day, driven the way it was planned.

Every driver opens their day already sequenced. The jobs are in the order the plan set - the order that keeps the empty running out and the utilisation up - not the order they happen to remember. There's no separate route sheet to interpret and no phone call to confirm the next stop.

What it looks like in practice. A driver starts the shift and sees the whole day on one screen: the jobs, in the right order, with the addresses, windows and vehicle details for each. The route that saved the empty leg is the route that actually gets driven, because it's the one in front of them. As each job is worked, the plan updates - so the planner back in Jigcar sees the day progress against the plan they approved, live, without ringing round for updates.

What it can do. Delivers each driver a sequenced job list for the shift, with full job and vehicle detail on every stop, and reflects progress back into the plan in real time. The route Jigcar planned is the route the driver runs.

Proof of Delivery and vehicle inspection, captured at handover

Proof captured at the point it happens. not reconstructed afterwards.

Every vehicle is checked and captured on pickup, and again on delivery, inside the app. Damage is recorded with photos and notes at the moment of collection, and proof of delivery is timestamped the second the car is dropped. Nothing is logged on a clipboard to be typed up later, and nothing has to be chased down a week on.

What it looks like in practice. At collection, the driver runs the inspection in the app - condition, mileage, photos - and the record is stamped to that vehicle and that moment. At delivery, damage-free proof is captured the same way, timestamped as it's dropped. If a condition query comes in later, the answer is already on the record: what the car looked like when it was collected, and what it looked like when it arrived.

What it can do. Structured collection and delivery inspections with photo capture, timestamped against the vehicle and the movement. A complete, defensible record of every handover - built as the work is done, not remembered after it.

Proof to invoice: closing the delivered-to-paid gap

The move only pays when it's proven. The app closes the gap between delivered and paid.

Delivery and its proof of delivery land together, so a completed move can move straight to invoice instead of sitting in a queue waiting on paperwork that hasn't arrived yet. Drivers can add expenses and receipts against the job on the spot, so the true cost of the move is captured alongside the proof it happened - simply scan a receipt, and AI will fill in the details on the app.

What it looks like in practice. A driver finishes the last drop, captures proof, and snaps the fuel receipt against the job before leaving. Back in Jigcar, the move is complete, proven and costed - ready to invoice. The days a move used to spend waiting between "delivered" and "billable" come out of the cycle.

What it can do. Ties proof of delivery and job-level costs (expenses, receipts) to each completed movement, so proven work is invoice-ready as soon as it's done, shortening the distance between finishing a move and getting paid for it.

How it fits into your existing workflow

The Driver App is the field end of the same plan your team builds in Jigcar. Planners carry on working the board exactly as they do now; the app is simply how the approved plan reaches the driver and how the day comes back - sequenced out, proven back.

It works on the phone the driver already carries. There's no new system for them to learn - a job list, an inspection, a proof capture - and everything they record is stamped against the right vehicle and movement automatically, feeding the same records your office already works from. The planner still owns the plan. The driver runs it. And every move comes back with the proof attached.
