JIGCAR SHIPS #02 - Planning Agent
This is the second post in Jigcar Ships — a running series covering new features as they go live.
Welcome to the future of moving cars. The Jigcar planning agent is the new way to move cars with agentic AI.
Transport planning is a constant back-and-forth: checking what’s unplanned, finding the right route, assigning a driver, and adjusting for the unexpected.
Most of that work happen has traditionally happened offline, in a spreadsheet, or if you’re lucky, a TMS interface albeit not designed for automotive.
The Planning Agent changes the interface, not the work.
It understands your operation - your routes, drivers, sites, and vehicles. And works where you do - with the visual canvas of the plan still by your side in Jigcar for you to manipulate towards the best plan for your business.
You ask a question or give an instruction in plain English, and it acts directly in the TMS.
The Planning Agent doesn’t replace planners. It removes the part of their day spent navigating between screens, checking statuses, and executing repetitive assignments — so they can focus on the decisions that need human judgement.
What it looks like in practice
Here’s a planner clearing a backlog at the start of the day, entirely through the chat panel.
Planning Agent
Jigcar Agent
Plan for Wednesday 1 July: 5 routes, 266 unplanned movements outstanding, including several overdue legs from March. Utilisation is 28% and empty mileage 71%. I’d start by clearing the oldest overdue legs, then fill the empty route.
You
Clear the overdue ones first. Assign RE68GFZ and YA72FNL to the next available routes.
Jigcar Agent
Done. RE68GFZ → Route 3 (Amy Kang, departs 10:15) and YA72FNL → Route 5 (Krzysztof Burka, departs 10:45). 264 movements remaining. Want me to fill the empty route next?
Ask the Planning Agent…
What it can do
The Planning Agent ships with a complete set of read and write capabilities covering the full planning workflow — from checking the day’s status through to dispatching routes to drivers.
See the operation
The day’s plan
An overview by date or plan ID: total routes, planned vs. unplanned counts, status at a glance.
Routes in detail
Drill into any route filtered by driver, type, or status, with every stop, vehicle, and timing.
Driver availability
See which drivers are based at a site and free to assign.
Unplanned vehicles
A live list of vehicles still needing a route, so nothing slips at the end of the day.
Site & vehicle lookup
Find any site by name, or any vehicle by registration, with its current status and movement.
Act on it
Assign vehicles
Put one or more vehicles onto a route in a single instruction, or unassign just as easily.
Carryover
When a vehicle won’t make it today, the agent suggests the right future route, explains why, and applies it once confirmed. Reversible, and works in bulk.
Route management
Create routes, reorder stops, add repositioning stops, and accept, reject, or delete — all via conversation.
Driver & shift assignment
Set a route’s driver, shift window, and capacity in one step.
Dispatch
Send a route to its driver once it’s ready, and see every route assigned to a driver on a given day.
Optimisation
Trigger the Jigcar optimisation engine, check its status, and apply operator suggestions from the chat.
How it fits into your existing workflow
The Planning Agent sits inside the Jigcar TMS as a chat panel — it doesn’t replace any existing screen or workflow. Planners who prefer to work visually through the planning board can carry on exactly as before. The agent is there for the moments when it’s faster to ask than to navigate.
Every action the agent takes is logged against the relevant route or vehicle record, the same as a manual change. There’s a full audit trail, and nothing is applied without a planner confirming it.
Human-in-the-loop by design. For any write action — assignment, carryover, dispatch — the agent describes what it’s about to do and waits for confirmation before applying the change.
Getting Started
The Planning Agent is available today in beta. To see it working against your own live, speak to the team to turn it on in your profile.
And for new customers interested in seeing the future of planning for automotive logistics, book a demo and we’ll walk through a planning session together.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Planning Agent make changes on its own?
No. It’s human-in-the-loop by design. For any write action — assignment, carryover, dispatch — the agent describes what it’s about to do and waits for your confirmation. Every change is logged against the relevant route or vehicle record with a full audit trail, exactly like a manual edit.
Do planners have to stop using the visual board?
Not at all. The agent sits inside the Jigcar TMS as a chat panel and doesn’t replace any existing screen. Planners who prefer to work visually keep the full canvas by their side and can move between chat and board freely.
What can the agent do?
It ships with a complete set of read and write capabilities across the planning workflow: viewing the day’s plan, drilling into routes, checking driver availability and unplanned vehicles, assigning and unassigning vehicles, carryover, route management, driver and shift assignment, dispatch, and triggering the Jigcar optimisation engine.
How do I turn the Planning Agent on?
It’s available today in beta. Existing customers can speak to the team to enable it in your profile. New customers can book a demo to see it working against a live planning session.
