Hendy Group Targets £1.4m Annual Saving with Jigcar

Rupert Wood

Hendy Group has launched a centrally managed in-house vehicle logistics team, deploying Jigcar’s AI-powered transport management platform to plan, optimise and manage all retail and fleet vehicle movements across its dealer network.

The group previously outsourced the majority of its c.20,000 annual vehicle movements, with an average turnaround of 3.5 working days. By building an internal driver team and using Jigcar to centrally optimise daily routes and job allocation, Hendy has significantly reduced both cost and delivery times.A trusted network of external transport providers and on-demand marketplace capacity through Jigcar’s two-way integration with MoveX sit alongside the internal operation, all managed from the same platform.

Data from the first three months shows internal driver movements completing in an average of 1.5 working days, with transport provider movements averaging 2.8 working days – both a substantial improvement on the 3.5-day average before Jigcar was introduced.

Hendy’s analysis of the new model, presented to the group’s board, forecast annual savings of approximately £385,000 from direct transport cost reductions by employing drivers versus outsourcing, and a further £1 million per year in stock holding cost savings from moving vehicles two days faster across 20,000 annual movements – a combined hard saving of approximately £1.4 million per year.

Beyond the direct cost savings, Hendy has identified an additional stock turn opportunity worth an estimated £1.7 million per year. With vehicles reaching forecourts sooner, the group has the potential to sell more cars from the same stock investment – a commercial upside that compounds the operational benefits of the new model.

Mark Busby, Commercial Director at Hendy Group, said:

“Moving to an in-house logistics model supported by Jigcar has given us far greater control over how vehicles move across our network. The speed improvements alone have a material impact on our working capital – every day a vehicle is in transit rather than on a forecourt is a day it can’t be sold.

“Where we do use external providers or the MoveX marketplace, they’re managed in the same platform as our drivers, so we always have visibility and control over cost and speed.”

Elliott Perks, CEO of Jigcar, said:

"What Hendy have done is build a logistics model that uses the right resource for the right job. Internal drivers are ideal for high-frequency, shorter-distance movements where speed has the biggest impact on stock turn. Transport providers bring capacity and expertise for longer distances, bulk moves and customer handovers where their network and infrastructure adds real value. Jigcar brings it all together in one platform so groups like Hendy can see the full picture and make smarter decisions about every movement."
